Siding That Actually Protects Your Home

There is a version of siding work that looks fine from the street and falls apart within a few years. Panels not overlapped correctly. Flashing skipped. Starter strips not level so every course above is slightly off. J-channel at windows that was not sealed and now lets water sit behind the trim.

These are not unusual problems. They are what happens when siding gets treated as a cosmetic job rather than a weatherproofing job.

We treat siding as what it actually is — the primary barrier between your living space and the elements. Every install we do is done to a standard that holds up through Pennsylvania winters and the freeze-thaw cycles this area gets year after year.

Installation Shortcuts
We Never Take

Skipping the inspection of the rough opening before new material goes on
Missing flashing at windows, doors, and roof-to-wall transitions
Nailing panels too tight without expansion allowance
Skipping or using degraded house wrap behind the siding
Leaving unsealed penetrations around vents, outlets, and hose bibs

Siding Types We Install

Vinyl Siding

The most widely used exterior cladding in Lancaster County — durable, low maintenance, no painting needed, and available in a wide range of colors, textures, and profiles. Installed correctly, it handles Pennsylvania weather without warping, cracking, or pulling away.

The key word is correctly. Vinyl expands and contracts more than most people realize. Panels nailed too tight buckle in summer heat. J-channel not properly installed lets water collect inside the track instead of draining out. We know these details because we’ve installed a lot of vinyl and seen what happens when they’re ignored.

Profiles We Install
Horizontal Lap Siding
Dutch Lap Profile
Beaded Profile
Board & Batten Vertical Vinyl
Shake-Style Vinyl (accents & gable ends)

Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding is one of our specialties — and a harder material to work with than most contractors want to deal with. The cuts need to be cleaner. Corners and trim pieces require more precision. And aluminum has its own thermal expansion behavior that needs to be accounted for in how it is fastened.

We have real experience with aluminum siding. If you have an older home with existing aluminum that needs to be matched or replaced, or if you’re choosing aluminum for a new installation, we are one of the better choices in Lancaster County for this work.

Best For
Older homes with existing aluminum siding
Matching existing profiles on partial replacements
Commercial & multi-unit properties
Homeowners who prefer aluminum’s characteristics

Fiber Cement Siding

HardiePlank and similar products are the premium choice for homeowners who want the look of wood without the maintenance. It doesn’t rot, doesn’t attract insects, holds paint exceptionally well, and is dimensionally stable through temperature and humidity changes.

It’s also heavier and harder to work with than vinyl. It requires proper fastening into framing, specific cutting tools to avoid dust hazards, and careful attention to joints and paint sealing at cut ends. We install fiber cement to manufacturer specifications — the approach that maximizes the lifespan of the product.

Why It’s Worth It
Does not rot or attract insects
Holds paint exceptionally well
Dimensionally stable year-round
Best long-term performance in Lancaster County climate

Wood Siding

Still the right choice for certain homes — particularly historic properties and custom builds where authenticity matters. Cedar clapboard, cedar shingles and shakes, tongue and groove boards, and board and batten wood siding all have their place.

Wood requires more maintenance over its life than other options, but installed correctly on a properly prepared wall assembly it performs well and looks better than any synthetic alternative. We install with proper priming on all four sides, correct fastening for seasonal movement, and careful end grain sealing.

Profiles We Install
Cedar Clapboard
Cedar Shingles & Shakes
Tongue & Groove Boards
Board & Batten Wood Siding

Engineered Wood & Composite

LP SmartSide and similar products offer a middle ground between real wood and fiber cement — lighter and easier to work with than fiber cement, with a more authentic wood texture than vinyl, and solid performance in the Lancaster County climate when installed correctly.

We install engineered wood and composite siding products to manufacturer specifications. A practical option for homeowners who want wood aesthetics with improved durability.

Advantages
More authentic texture than vinyl
Lighter than fiber cement — easier handling
Good performance in PA climate
Mid-range price point

Siding Repair in Lancaster County

Not every siding job is a full replacement. We assess what is actually going on before we recommend what needs to be done. If a repair is the right answer, we will tell you that. We do not push a full replacement on someone who does not need one.

Storm Damage Repair

Hail, high winds, and falling branches cause damage that ranges from cosmetic to structurally significant. We assess storm damage honestly, repair what needs repairing, and can work with insurance claims and provide damage documentation.

Moisture & Rot Repair

When siding fails, moisture gets behind it. By the time it’s visible from outside, damage behind the wall is often more extensive than it looks. We always look at what’s behind damaged panels and address rot before putting new siding over it.

Partial Siding Replacement

If a section is damaged but the rest is in good condition, we replace the affected area. We do our best to source matching profiles and colors and we’re upfront about what the result will look like before we start.

Caulking & Sealing

Cracked caulk around windows, doors, corners, and utility penetrations is one of the most common ways water gets into a wall. One of the most cost-effective repairs you can make. Offered as a standalone service or part of a larger project.

Our Process

What We Do on a Siding Job

01

Inspection & Assessment

Before any work starts we look carefully at existing siding and what’s behind it — rot, moisture damage, failing flashing, and any issues with the wall assembly that need to be addressed first.

02

Removal

We remove existing siding carefully and inspect the sheathing underneath. Anything damaged gets repaired or replaced before new material goes on. This step gets skipped on a lot of siding jobs. We do not skip it.

03

House Wrap & Flashing

If existing house wrap is damaged or missing, we repair or replace it. Flashing at windows, doors, and roof-to-wall intersections gets checked and corrected. This is the waterproofing layer that protects your wall when siding eventually lets some water in. It matters a lot.

04

Installation

Installed to manufacturer specifications and our own standard — consistent reveal, level courses, proper overlaps, and clean trim work at every edge and opening.

05

Cleanup & Walkthrough

We clean up at the end of every workday — no debris left around your property overnight. When the job is done we walk the complete exterior with you and address anything that is not right before we leave.

What We See

The Most Common Siding Problems in Lancaster County

Panels Nailed Too Tight

Vinyl needs room to expand in summer heat. Face-nailed or over-nailed panels buckle and warp. One of the most common vinyl siding failures we see in Lancaster County.

Missing or Improper Flashing

At every window, door, and roof-to-wall intersection there needs to be flashing that directs water out and away from the wall. When it’s missing, water finds its way into the structure.

Skipped or Cheap House Wrap

House wrap is the last line of defense when water gets past the siding. Jobs where it was skipped or has degraded lead to moisture problems throughout the wall cavity.

Poor Caulking at Penetrations

Every hose bib, dryer vent, electrical outlet, and gap around window frames needs to be properly sealed. When it’s not, water works its way in every time it rains.

Low Starter Strip Mounting

If the starter strip sits in contact with soil or too close to the ground, moisture wicks up and causes rot at the bottom of the wall — sometimes before it’s visible from outside.

Covering Rot With New Material

Putting new siding over damaged sheathing or framing is not a repair. It is just delaying a much larger and more expensive problem. We never do this.

What Lancaster County Weather Does to Siding

Water that gets into a small gap in your siding in November freezes in December, expands, makes the gap bigger, and creates a pathway for more water in the spring. Over several seasons a small installation deficiency becomes a significant moisture problem.

This is why we take siding installation seriously beyond making it look good. A siding job that performs well in Lancaster County weather needs to be detailed correctly — not just quickly.

❄️
Winter

Sub-freezing temps stress frames and seals — expansion gaps matter

☀️
Summer

Heat & humidity — panels nailed too tight will buckle

🌧️
Spring & Fall

Heavy rain seasons — flashing and sealing details get tested hard

🧊
Freeze-Thaw

Late winter cycling expands small gaps into real water pathways

Common Questions

Common Questions About Siding

We can help you figure this out during a free on-site visit. Generally if more than 20–30% of the siding is damaged or failing, a full replacement is often more cost-effective than patching. If damage is isolated to a specific area and the rest is in good shape, repair is the right answer. We give you an honest assessment — not a sales pitch.
A typical single-family home takes two to four days depending on the size, the complexity of the exterior, and the number of windows and doors. We give you a specific timeline with your estimate.
In most Lancaster County municipalities, like-for-like siding replacement does not require a permit. If you are changing the cladding type or making changes to the wall assembly, requirements may vary. We check this for your specific municipality as part of the estimate process.
It depends on your budget, your home’s style, and how much maintenance you want to deal with. Vinyl is the most practical and cost-effective choice for most homes. Fiber cement is the premium option that performs best over the long term. Aluminum is a good choice if you want to match existing aluminum on an older home. We walk you through the options during your estimate.
We do our best to source matching material. For vinyl siding the profile and color can usually be matched reasonably closely. For older aluminum or wood siding an exact match is not always possible, but we get as close as we can and we tell you what to expect before we start.
Yes. We install and repair siding on commercial properties, multi-unit residential buildings, and mixed-use properties throughout Lancaster County.
Possibly. If your house wrap has degraded or was never installed, if there are gaps around windows and doors, or if you have single-layer construction without proper insulation behind the siding, your envelope is losing energy. We can assess this during a site visit.
