The front door is the first thing a visitor touches, and on a stone home it has to be set perfectly. On this West Chester project we installed a custom entry door in a fieldstone facade, with clean white trim fitted tight against irregular stone and a threshold built for a complete air seal. Stone does not forgive poor measurements, so the fit is everything.

What the West Chester door project involved
A door in a stone opening combines precise fitting with proper weatherproofing. The scope covered:
- Removal of the old door and inspection of the rough opening
- A custom entry door set plumb, level, and square in the stone
- White exterior casing fitted tight against the irregular stone edges
- Pan flashing and a complete threshold and weatherstrip seal
- Hardware installed and adjusted for smooth, lasting operation
Why stone openings demand more care
Most door installations allow a contractor to adjust the opening slightly. A stone opening is fixed, so the reveal has to be identical on all sides and the casing has to terminate cleanly against the stone without gaps filled by caulk. Proper flashing at the sill and head is what keeps water out, and it is one of the steps lower-cost installers skip. Choosing an efficient door helps too, and you can check what the ratings mean through ENERGY STAR.
