Few upgrades change a room as fast as a wood feature wall. On this Ephrata project we built a board and batten treatment that turned a flat hallway wall into a focal point, adding texture and architectural character with simple trim laid out cleanly. Painted a single color, it reads as elegant millwork rather than a weekend project.

What the Ephrata feature wall involved
Board and batten looks simple, and the basic construction is; the finishing is what sells it. The scope covered:
- A grid of evenly spaced vertical battens over the wall
- A clean top rail and base to frame the treatment
- Battens set plumb and consistent across the run
- Filled, sanded, and caulked joints for a seamless surface
- A single-color paint finish that hides the seams
Why even spacing and finishing sell it
The whole effect depends on even spacing and a clean finish. Battens that are slightly off from each other read as sloppy, and caulk and paint are what turn separate boards into a single architectural feature. The construction is half the job; the finishing is the half people actually see. For understanding professional finish credentials, NARI is a helpful reference.
