Gray lap siding and a gable truss on a new house

A new single-story house got gray lap siding, white trim and a decorative gable truss over the entry.

This is new construction: a long single-story house in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, sided in September 2024.

Lap siding on a long house

The house is long and low, so straight siding courses matter. Any wave in a course is obvious along a fifty-foot wall. The courses were snapped and checked as the siding went up.

White trim

White corner boards, frieze and casings outline the gray siding. On new construction the trim goes on first and the siding is fitted between it, which gives clean joints everywhere.

The gable truss

Over the entry gable is a decorative white truss, a simple detail that gives the front of a plain house a focal point.
